Diane Charles, Commodore of the Ladysmith Yacht Club, is giving an update on what is happening with the Ladysmith Yacht Club.
First, we have found a buyer for the clubhouse! Dave Messier from Maple Bay Marina has purchased the clubhouse and will be relocating it to that marina, where the building will be repurposed as the waiting room for the Float Plane business. We are thrilled that the clubhouse has a new home, and that we will be able to see her for years to come. We anticipate the move of the clubhouse to happen soon – weather dependent of course (today would not have been a good day with the storm!)
As for LYC, we are moving forward with a very positive outlook. We have a strong relationship with Oak Bay Marine Group (OBMG), and we have a commitment to keep the Ladysmith marina as our “home”. We have finalized the details for reciprocal moorage, and are working out the details for an increased visual presence in the marina, including signage and information boards.
We have a full slate of activities planned for 2025, including 5 rendezvous events, and continued monthly potlucks and education nights. We have secured a meeting space that works for these smaller events, with easy access and lots of parking for our members. Our new executive is in place to start off the year in a good way, with Paul Tellier moving into the Commodore role on January 1.
As an executive, we want the boating community to know that LYC is alive, well and thriving! While we have temporarily closed reciprocal moorage while we transition to the new plan, we will be back in business by Feb 1 (or before), if all goes well.
Please reach out if you have any questions! (commodore@ladysmithyc.bc.ca)
Kind regards,
Diane Charles, Commodore, LYC
