The Comox Valley Yacht Club is ending its involvement with the marine park at Sandy Island at the North end of Denman Island, and will no longer be responsible for the mooring or other infrastructure there. End of an era – the club has done a great job of stewardship over many years.

Park Stewards at Sandy Island/Jajii7em and Kw’ulh Marine Park
Many members participated in the annual spring clean-up on the island and then weekend hosting duties began. Thank you to those who volunteered and persevered this year. It was challenging as we worked with BC Parks in the attempt to re-establish the mooring buoy and to find volunteers willing to commit to a weekend watching over the island park.
This year, the executive reviewed how the work of managing our commitment has steadily increased, the stress that weekend hosts have experienced with disrespectful island guests and the growing impacts recent land title issues have all made this previously rewarding undertaking more and more difficult. We have come to the decision that we need to focus our volunteer energies and resources elsewhere. To that end, we are beginning the process of extracting the club from our engagement with BC Parks.
